History
In 1959, a strong nationalistic spirit was sweeping the country. Students, restless for action, were seeking guidance. In the church, liberal theology was widespread.
Meanwhile, God was quietly at work, gathering students in different campuses for prayer and Bible study. Eager to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, these students formed Christian Fellowships in their respective places of learning.
It was in the wisdom of God that the need for a national Fellowship of Evangelical Students was met at the right time. In July 1959, the FES was launched.
The pioneering emphasis of FES was to develop a strong evangelical witness in every institution of higher learning.
Today, FES has an evangelical student witness in the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, National Institute of Education, Singapore Management University, Singapore Institute of Management, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic and several private institutions of learning. In each of these groups, students meet regularly for Bible study, prayer, evangelistic outreach and various teaching and training programmes.
